A Loving Father

Just as it is written; Jacob I loved, but Esau

I hated — Romans 9:13 (NIV)

I would not blame Cain. If my toes slid into

his boots, I’d steal Abel’s

breath too. What do you call a man who loves

one child & hates the other—God?

This body is familiar with the thirst of a wound;

the way a flower opens up

to a watering can. I have learnt, language cannot

be a barrier in love; the warmth in

a father’s embrace, a well-done tap on the back.

But how hard can a language be,

that it favours the tongue of one to another— a

loving father?
