Submissions

Afrihill Press is interested in works that explore human society, non-human spaces, and other dynamics in the world. There is no restriction on themes, genre, topics etc. as far as the submitted piece or pieces don’t instigate racism, sexism, violence, homophobia, or any other disapproving themes. We accept all kinds of submissions: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, playlets, essays, and book reviews. We’re open all year round for submission. 

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must be typed in Times New Roman font, single-spaced, 12-point font size, and submitted as a docx.file
  • The submitted docx.file must contain your work titled, with the author bio, nationality, and email contact.
  • The subject of the mail should contain the genre of your work, the title of your submission, and the author’s full name. For example, Poetry— Origin of Grief, Ahmed Ngozi Itunu.
  • Your author bio should be brief and precise. Not more than 150 words. Feel free to flaunt your achievements within the word count.
  • Submitted documents must be titled with the submission title to enable us to identify your work without complications.
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed. We will be glad if you can inform us if your submission is accepted elsewhere. We disregard already published work/works (whether published on social media, magazines, anthologies, blogs, etc.)
  • Any submitted works containing local or indigenous languages apart from the British or American English must be translated at the end of the document.
  • All works (poetry, fiction, non-fiction, playlets, etc.) are read and received by our Editor-in-Chief. We reply to all submissions between one to two weeks. If you fail to hear from us within the allotted time, feel free to send a query mail to [email protected].
  • Any form of plagiarized work submitted to us will be frowned upon and will be automatically disregarded.
  • Upon publication, all rights are reserved to the author or contributor.

 Below are the individual submission guidelines:

Poetry

  • Poetry submissions must not exceed 40 lines. Submit a single poem at a time.
  • Poems must be the original work of the author, not plagiarized, and must not have been published elsewhere during the time of submission.
  • Poems must only be written in English (British or American). Poems containing local or indigenous languages should be translated.
  • Poems must be single-spaced.
  • Poems written in different kinds of styles and structure, explore any theme and idea and contains distinct imagery are welcome.

 

 

Fiction

  • Submit only one (1) story at a time.
  • Your work must be original and must not have been published elsewhere.
  • Story must not exceed 3000 words in length.
  • Any story that contains local or indigenous languages should be translated.

Non-Fiction

  • Submit one piece at a time. Multiple submissions will not be accepted.
  • Non-fiction pieces must not exceed 3500 words.
  • Must be original work and must not have been published elsewhere.

Playlets

  

  • Short Plays must not exceed 3000 words or five (5) scenes.
  • All drama forms, styles, and structures are welcomed.
  • All dialogues must be well edited.

Essays

  • Essays must not exceed 2500 words.
  • Only one (1) essay will be accepted at a time.
  • Essayists should feel free to explore different themes that provoke thoughts, ideas, etc. Provided that the theme or topic doesn’t go against our required policy.

Book Reviews

  • Must be an original work. No plagiarism.
  • There is no word limit.
  • All book reviews submitted must be constructive criticism. Any review that seems destructive and unappealing will be automatically disregarded.

NOTE: Currently, we’re not charging submission fees but we are now a paying publishing house. Any accepted work will be paid a token of #5000naira. In the future, we hope to pay our contributors hugely.
